Universities in the Philippines

by: Charles Bolanos

Hopefully I will be able to finish fast my elementary and high school like my cousin Daniel who is fast tracking his elementary and will soon hop in to high school then... hopefully to the university.

There are different universities you can choose in the Philippines. I hope there will be universities in the countryside, really far away from the hustle bustle of the city. I prefer a university that is surrounded by trees, had a great library where you can really study, and of course... a nice student residence where there is a library, and a nice place to reflect and pray (very important especially if you will take philosophy and law;  math or science course).

I hope there will also be a sports complex with a great basketball court where other universities can actually enjoy and have a friendly competition of basketball.

Here are some universities which are famous in my country:

a.) University of Sto. Tomas, the most ancient among the universities, though in the middle of Manila, the campus is surrounded by a large football arena that can house a thousand youth delegates. A favorite hub every time the Holy Father comes around.

The university is also gifted with an olympic size basketball court.

UST is known for the law, sciences and business. Made famous by their basketball team known as the "Tigers".

b.) University of the Philippines is so far a younger university that UST, houses a great number of Filipino students. My parents told me that the design was suppose to be almost like Stanford University, but still far away from the real Stanford. You can be sure however that you will taste the best fish balls, tokneneng and barbecue... and yes a long kiosk of affordable meal for students.

The university is also surrounded by libraries, not as posh as UST and Ateneo - - if you are a library type of person.

Traffic can be long during rush hour inside the university, but if you choose this university, you will surely have lots of friends from all walks of life.

Their basketball team is the "Maroons"

c.) Ateneo de Manila University is also 100 years old, located at Katipunan.

The basketball team is the "Eagles". Their fiercest traditional competitor is the "Archers"
from La Salle University.

Most boys like me like to study in Ateneo... as this is a famous school for boys for elementary,
high school and the university.

d.) University of Asia and the Pacific is known for its Economics and Business, liberal arts education, and Social Sciences.

This is a young university, they are famous for "fencing".

However, I think in the future they will also have their own basketball team. I hope I can be one of the first... I heard that going in this university can be tough in the first year... so I was given a tip not to have any heavy extra curricular activities at first year... if eventually I will have a chance to study here... my goal is really are studies and basketball - to live a balance life... at least for boys like me.

e) University of the East is located at the university belt, famous for its accounting graduates.
Their basketball team is known as the "Red Warriors".

f.) Far Eastern University is known for the sciences, because most students who had ran out of slot from UST, usually runs to the nearest university FEU.

The basketball team is known as the "Tamaraws".

g.) La Salle University is known for its business university courses. Situated in the very heart of Taft, expect heavy traffic and less plants. But the graduates here are tough if you will be talking about business. Their basketball team is known as the "Archers".

La Salle was also famous as a university for boys, but as trending goes... this university has gone co-ed too...

I hope we will still have a chance to study in the universities, as the bombing in Paris is not really okay, and in all other parts of the world. I hope there will be peace so young people like me will be able to give chance for peace.

Novaliches also have a Polytechnic University and several colleges like the Our Lady of the Angels College.

The entry of K12 allows the Philippines to welcome young Filipinos here and abroad who choose the Philippines to study.
