Storming Tabernacles
by: Aileen Soriano
HOLY THURSDAY
Here's what I did with my family during Holy Thursday.
We stormed the Holy Tabernacles with prayers of penance and
thanksgiving.
Holy Thursday is a feast day, its the day before Good Friday.
Holy Thursday was a special day because it is when the
Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist was instituted. Historically,
was the Last Supper of Jesus with his disciples before
being crucified.
Holy Thursday is also the day when the Chrism Mass is
celebrated all over the world. The Chrism Mass is when
the those who had the gift of priesthood celebrate publicly.
In the evening, the Holy Mass which commemorates the
institution of the Holy Eucharist - a short play is usually
done by the parish - 12 men are selected to act as
apostles. The Parish Priest who represents that Jesus, washes
their feet and kisses the washed feet.
Then at the end of the Holy Mass, the Blessed Sacrament
is transported to the "monumento". This is the active
re-enactment of the "Agony in the Garden".
The "Agony in the Garden" is the renactment of the
prayer of Jesus in Gethsemane, before the betrayal of Judas.
The "monumento" or the exposed Blessed Sacrament is an
invitation to join Jesus in prayer, a reminder of God's Great Love
for all of us - that knows no bounds.
Visita Iglesia
Visita Iglesia is when families storm tabernacles... that is visiting
7 monuments of the Blessed Sacrament.
Each monument visited prayers are said.
Good Friday
The next day after Holy Thursday, is Good Friday.
It is also a day of fasting and abstinence for all
healthy 14 years old till 60.
At 3p.m. services are held and a re-enactment thru the
readings of the Sacred Scripture about Jesus' crucifixion.
Then followed by the "Veneration of the Cross". We
all kiss the Holy Cross.
Then Holy Communion.
The rest of the day, the family spends time in prayer.
Holy Saturday
Holy Saturday is a time of mourning... only in
the morning.
Afternoon is usually the preparation for the Resurrection, so
mourning ends in the morning.
EASTER SUNDAY
This is a day of great rejoicing! There are several activities
that is meaningful for everyone.
a. Salubong or early Dawn Mass.
b. Vigil Easter Mass
c. Easter Holy Mass
