Speaking Tagalog in the Philippines

by: Ma. Charlene Bolanos

The Philippines is 7,107 islands at the West Philippines sea. There are lots of dialects which you need to learn when coming here. But its best to start with Tagalog.

Most Filipinos love to hear the following:

1. Magandang umaga!  Good morning!

2. Magandang hapon!   Good afternoon!

3. Magandang gabi!   Good evening!

4. Salamat po ! Thank you !  (this is thanking older folks even if you are higher in status.)

5. Salamat Kuya! Thank you older brother! (most male Filipinos appreciate this thank you, just make sure that they are really older than you are.)

6. Salamat Ate! Thank you older sister (same as no. 5)

7. Salamat! Thanks (if you are thanking somebody of the same age).

8. Aalis na kami! Goodbye!

9. Ingat! Take Care!

If you want to learn Filipino in Tagalog, you may stay at the furnished apartment in novaliches because definitely the people around will speak with you in Tagalog.

Here is interesting video of a young Russian student who
speaks Filipino. Speaks fluently, but I think its good that he
stays 6 months or a year to perfect his Filipino twang.
But I am impressed!
