The Quest for an Authentic Filipino Man

Women are looking for them: the Filipino who would become their knight in shining armor and partner in life.  Traditions have taught them about the right qualities to look for but with so many single women around, and an almost equal female to male ration in the country, it seems that these authentic Filipino men do not want to be found.  So girls, while looking out for that Filipino guy, re-assess the qualities you are looking for with the tips below.

Filipino men are ideally chivalrous, described in the native language as "maginoo".  They take care of ladies and elder people by carrying their baggage and offering their seats at public places.  Grooming in chivalry starts when they are young.  Filipino sons are trained to protect their siblings, especially their sisters.  Any man who disrespects his sisters will face his wrath.  They come to love their mothers deeply and hopes that when the time comes, she will approve of the woman who captures his heart.

A Filipino shows that he is a true man by meeting the parents of the girl at her house and openly expressing his intentions.  He will face any challenges given by the family, especially the father.  When wooing a girl, he expresses his earnestness by serving the girl and her family which also extends to her relatives who live nearby.

One way this is done is through house chores.  He also strives to make a good impression to the girl’s friends and neighbors.  He lets himself be submerged in all these tests, in the process making him treasure the girl even more.  Victory is sweet when he wins the girl over.  Moreover, their relationship will be easier with the support of the people he also won over during the courtship period.

Filipino men like to sing.  They can either sing for the girl they are courting or just show-off to their friends.  He easily blends in with a group of men whom he calls pare or p’re for short accepting their offer for drink shots and sharing their takes on the recent basketball or boxing matches.

Husbands are traditionally referred to as head of their families.  He is the earner, works to provide for his brood.  To an authentic Filipino man, having a family is simple: protecting his woman and working to provide for his brood.

Daughters still know they can depend on their fathers for assistance especially advice, other things, such as picking up their child from school, taking care of her little ones while she and her husband are at work - is a great time for bonding in the families. Marrying a Filipino is actually marrying in the family culture of the Filipino family.

So girls, found anyone yet with these traits?  All the best in your quest for an authentic Filipino.
