What to Wear During Summer Time for Men

by: Ronan Vergara

If you are planning to spend your summer time in the Philippines, keep in mind that the weather here during the summer is hot and you should know what to wear to fight off the heat.

On normal days when you plan to take walks along the beach or parks, you could wear simple casual clothes. You can wear t-shirts with short sleeves and short pants to keep yourself cool. Wear sunscreen on the parts of your body exposed to the sun. Wearing slippers is also acceptable if you will just be walking around the streets.

If you're planning to go inside malls and museums, you could wear the same t-shirt but you should wear longer pants and wear rubber shoes instead of slippers. This is because there are malls where the guard won't let you in if you are wearing slippers and short pants.

When planning to take part in summer activities in the Philippines, then your outfit will depend on the activity. When you're going to explore caves, it would be better to wear long pants and long sleeved shirts because there are many mosquitoes in dark areas, while your shoes must be sturdy shoes that are really made for rough activities. The same clothes could be worn when mountain hiking, but you could replace the long pants with Bermuda shorts to allow for better mobility.

On the beach, you could wear your undershirt, island shorts and slippers. Wear sunglasses if your eyes are sensitive to strong sunlight. Always remember to wear sunscreen.

In family reunions, parties and when attending mass, wear something that will be more presentable and a bit more formal. Wear polo shirts and or slacks. You could also wear black leather shoes,

When attending Holy Mass, Sunday attire of smart casual is proper. Never wear shorts and sleeveless tee.

For formal wear, like if you need to attend a wedding or a business meeting, wear long sleeves with breathable fiber so that it won't feel too hot, like 100% cotton for example. Wear a necktie or a bowtie only if necessary, because wearing these could prevent the air to circulate around your clothing and make it feel hotter for you.

You could also wear Barong Tagalog since it is very breathable and you won't need to wear a necktie or a bowtie.

On every occasion, remember to wear something light-colored so that your clothes won't absorb the heat. Refrain from wearing dark-colored clothes because these will absorb light and the heat with it, making it hotter for you.
