Philippines Survival Kit: Beach Wedding

by: JC Bulan

The next most romantic place to have a wedding  after a church, is the beach!  One of the loveliest destinations can be found in the province of Pangasinan (4-5 hours travel from Manila), branded as a land of miracles and romance.

Part of this province is Bolinao which boasts of white sand beaches.   Among the popular spots in Bolinao are Puerto del Sol, Punta Riviera, and Patar beach.

To make the most out of the Bolinao beach wedding especially in the summer, the wedding couple should wear clothes of light fabric.  The bride’s gown can be made of chiffon or rayon while the groom’s attire can be crafted from white linen.  Instead of high heels and leather shoes footwear for the bride and groom respectively, they may opt for customized slippers which will make it convenient for them to walk on the sand.

At least three months must be allotted for the creation of the couple’s attire to ensure the perfect design and fit for this once-in-a-lifetime event.

A minimum of three months must also be allotted for the distribution of the wedding invitations.  This allows the guests enough time to block their schedules and make travel arrangements.  It is also part of the wedding etiquette for guests to RSVP 2-3 weeks before the ceremony.

All the people’s hard work is paid off as the celebration features  Bolinao’s specialties such as bangus (Puerto del Sol serves bangus cordon bleu, by the way), pigar-pigar (beef dish), and bamboo cake for dessert!

It’s so exciting to plan for a destination wedding but what would make it even more fruitful is the preparation for the Catholic wedding ceremony itself.  To get in touch with a priest to solemnize the wedding, the couple may contact the following parishes in Bolinao: St. James the Great, St. John the Evangelist, and Our Lady of the Pillar (these parishes are under the Diocese of Alaminos).
