Special Halo - Halo

by: Mary Ann Bolanos

Make a treat for your family and friends.

Here is a sure cool recipe that will capture the
hearts of your family and friends.

Our favorite Halo - Halo! There is a trade
secret here... so read carefully:

Ingredients:

Ice Cream (Vanilla, ube, or Macapuno)
(If you like to make your Halo-Halo exotic...
Durian Ice Cream is for you. - this is only
available in UP Shopping Center, Q.C. in Manila)

Pinipig   (this is a newly harvested rice, slightly milled,
                roasted and pounded).

Boiled Banana (Saba variety, this is the banana also used by Africans)
(Boiled in brown sugar or honey (best for health reasons)).

Sweet Mangoes

Frozen Fresh Buko Water
(Buy the mature one...for its natural sweetness, frozen ahead of
time mixed with cold boiled juiced pandan leaves). Mix this
with fresh cow's milk.

Sago (in different colors)

Sweet Beans (available in supermarkets)
Sweet Red Monggo (available in supermarkets)
Sweet Kaong (available in supermarkets)

Preparation:

1. In a tall glass add sweet beans, red monggo, sweet kaong,
boiled sago,  boiled sweetened banana. Set Aside.

2. Crush frozen buko juice with milk and pandan
flavor. You may use a blender for this. Add this in
the tall glass.

3. Add your favorite ice cream.

Add barquillos for a creative effect.

Enjoy with family and friends :).

Historical fact: The Halo - Halo is a Filipino culinary invention, a favorite
of many. This somehow represents the Filipino because in his blood runs
Spanish, Chinese, Asian-Malay, Asian Indonesian, American,
Iceland, Sweden, India, Russian, Japanese, Poland and African.

Where to Buy from the Short term Stay Apartment:

1. Take a walk to 7-11. All the ingredients are
there; except Durian Ice Cream which is only
available at UP Shopping Center.

2. Take a walk to ALW Mart, cheaper, but
the supermarket does not have an aircon.
