What to Do in the Philippines After a Big Event

by: Charles Bolanos

My big sister should be writing her recipes.

But she is finishing her final exams and
will be graduating soon. I decided to
write in her behalf.

I will not write about recipes, but
about what do you do when you find
 yourself and your  family waking
up after a big event!

Example, you just attended a happy family
reunion or a big wedding feast. You wake up
little late, find your mom, your wife,
your sister all waking up late. Then
you look at each other...and ask yourself ...
 now what?

Here are some suggestions on how to make your stay in the
Philippines fun and you won't spend much:

1. Organize a "paseo" or going around
Manila using the MRT station...
Metro Rail Station. My technique is
not to use the MRT during rush hour.
Leave the furnished apartment in Novaliches
at around 11 a.m. after your late
breakfast.

Stop over "Centris Station" and
taste the food there. Its cool and
pleasant.

2. After lunch if you liked to go to the
 cheapest shopping place in
Manila? Be ready... dress down a bit...
don't be posh... and visit Divisoria and
buy the most cheapest beauty accessories
for your "pasalubong" at Php 25.oo pesos.
Visit the cheapest clothes lines but elegant...
at 168 and branded leather bags at the most
affordable price.

Tip: bring water with you as today - - summer heat is here.

3. Drop by China town, which is just a
jeepney ride away for your early supper, and taste
an authentic Pecking Duck... siomai and
dumplings... and yes!... the authentic "pansit" (noodles)
that is not very expensive... and its served hot.

4. Since you are in China town,
you might as well drop by Intramuros
and cool off along Fort Santiago!

Visit the famous Cardinal's Place,
 a resto airconditioned with the
best Filipino food you can taste.
The head chef is a nun!

Lastly, I suggest you start going
back to the furnished apartments at 4.45 p.m.
so the whole family will not get caught in the
rush hour. Stop by Trinoma for your free make - up
samples to freshen up. Best place to buy your
toiletries without the rush... and take the UV
Express going home at the furnished apartment
in Novaliches freshen up...ready for your
cold fun supper.

COLD SUPPER PREPARATIONS

When you are in the Philippines and with
family and friends. You would really want
to spend as much time having fun.

Best is to ask all family members and friends
to bring in their favorite
food that you can serve as a group.

Example:

1. Dad buys his favorite chicharon and
takes care of the drinks: cola,
juices and beer (light beer)

2. Mom prepares her favorite pasta dish
like pesto, spaghetti or
lasagna pasta.

3. Big sister prepares "Smorse"

Smorse is a sandwich chocolate inside
graham crackers...roasted. Great
to eat with grilled hot dogs, barbecue and burgers.

4. Big brother prepares the barbecue.

Spend less time in roasting a barbecue
   buy buying a cooked barbecue.
   Brush with sprite, lemon and
   San Miguel beer.

5. Cousins, Uncles, Friends

Ask them to bring some food like:

     a. Pancit Bijon
     b. Pasta
     c. Fish... for roasting.
Best fish to buy in the market are:

      c.1. Milk Fish or "Bangus"
      c.2. Tilapia
      c.3. Blue Marlin
      c.4  Hito or Mud Fish

     d. Fruits
     e. Rice
     f. Banana leaves
     g. Paper Plates.

Eat at exactly 6.45 p.m. or 7.30 p.m.
at the most... if you need more time to prepare.

Prepare a big trash.... separate
bio degradable and non-bio degradable.

After eating...make sure everybody also helps
out in cleaning...to avoid rodents and other
insects invading after your cold supper at the patio.

Talk about what you want to do the next
day... before going back to your home country.

At this time of the year in the
Philippines... Do not forget to visit the BEACH!

THE BEACH

There are lots of nice beach around
the furnished apartment in Novaliches.
You just need a bit of adventure...
and a bit of waking up early!

The nearest beach is
BINMALEY BEACH at the
JT Resort... with the
new NCLEX and TPLEX...

Binmaley beach is easily accessible.

If you plan to use a van, best time
to leave is at 3 a.m. if you like
to go back in the evening at the
furnished apartment in Novaliches.
But if you plan to stay overnight...
3 a.m. is still the best.

1. Take NCLEX or TPLEX all the way
to Binmaley town.

This will take two hours to 4 hours
depending on how
good the driver is.

Be careful in driving.

The two hours (2) ride is the best
 time to exchange
funny stories and ideas...
family bonding galore.

2. Turn left towards the cultural
heritage Church of Binmaley...
...best to visit the Church and
the museum before going to
the beach to situate yourself.

Buy some food in the market for
cooking.  You may also buy food
at the resort...of course at a
mark up price.

Entrance is Php 100 or less. If they charge
a bit... make sure you ask for a discount if
you are a big group.

3. Turn left and a five minutes drive
will bring you to one of the
finest beach in the Philippines...
housed at JT Resort.

Swim... and to ease of the heat.

Do not forget to apply your
sun tan. I use virgin coconut oil to
get the tan without getting burnt.

Make sure that trash are not thrown at the beach.

More fun in the Philippines tomorrow...

Food at the Beach:

1. Boiled Rice, boiled shrimps with lemon.
2. Boiled Sweet Potato or Potato.
3. Roasted Fish
4. Roasted Pork , Beef

If you liked a grilled beef burger... make sure you
use an aluminum foil. Unless you have a high powered
grill.

5. Buy some tomatoes
6. Buy some super fresh green sea weeds.
7. Super fresh tomatoes.
8. Beer, coca cola, orange juice for the children, lots of water,
buko (or coconut juice if you liked).
9. Take advantage of buying crabs at Binmaley.

If you don't like to cook, drop by "Dampa"
along Binmaley highway... 15 minutes
away the beach... and eat fresh sea food at
an affordable price.

You can easily spot the place because
people flock the place at lunch time.

Best to go there earlier than lunch time or
supper time to get the best table.

You have the option to sleep at the resort
or stay in a local hotel which is only 10 minutes
away the beach.
