New Year Plans for the Upcoming 2015

by: Mrs. Aileen B. Soriano

For most of us, classes starts on the 5th of January. So
the 4th of January is actually a shake off of the season, even
if Three Kings is still upcoming.

Here are some nice things which you can do with your family
during the last stretch of the Christmas Season.

28 December 2014 This is the Sunday of the Feast
of the Holy Family. Attending Holy Mass together and
having a lunch with the whole family is a good idea.

In the afternoon, its best to have some Christmas carols
and see the lights in the city.

You may want to visit the Quezon City Memorial Circle
or Maginhawa Street in Quezon City for a family dinner
treat that is affordable.

Otherwise, stay home and have a good movie that will inspire
the family.

29 December 2014 is Monday. This is the last working day.
Best to shop at this time because there are less people going
to the market as they are working. That is if you are in Manila.

Make sure all payments are actually paid on line, otherwise, you
have to go early paying to the banks. Expect long lines.

30 December 2014 is Tuesday. This is a holiday already. Best to
prepare the food for 31st of January. Make sure the whole family
lends a hand in covering big windows or closing them to avoid the soot
of the New Year from entering.

Last day also of having village parties, family reunions and all sorts of
gatherings.

31 December 2014 Wednesday is THE DAY of the New Year. It is also
a preparation for the big feast of the Blessed Mother. Another Noche Buena is
prepared.

If you have young children at home and staying at the heart of Manila, it is
best when 12:00 midnight comes along to keep them inside the house. I am
the prudent type, so I do not allow them to watch live fire works during New Years
Eve, we just watch in advance in specific sites. I find the fire works in the  Philippines
raw and not yet organized which can be dangerous to children...not to mention the fumes.

Best to buy trumpets and drums when you like to make a noise welcoming New Year
instead.

1 January 2015 I typically prepare hot chocolate, vigan longganisa (Ilocos Sausages), brown rice,
fruits to welcome the first day of the New Year. This is also a day of attending Holy Mass because this is also a big feast of the Blessed Mother.

2 January 2015 Preparation for Roscon a bread which is served on the feast of Three Kings, where each one can receive surprise gifts.

3 January 2015 Vacation is almost over...cleaning up, and preparation for office work and classes.

4 January 2015 Back to the normal schedule...looking forward for summer...Lent and Easter Sunday coming up.
