A whole week of activities is in store for Manileños starting on Manila Day on June 24 until June 30. As always, the city of Manila is prepared to celebrate their foundation day with a blast; this year’s line-up of activities include film showings, concerts and of course the most anticipated Miss Manila 2014 coronation.
The laboratory play festival Virgin Labfest will also celebrate their tenth year with twelve experimental plays by emerging Filipino playwrights, appearing for their annual performance in the Cultural Center of the Philippines. They will perform every day from June 24 to the 30th, in the CCP Studio Center, Pasay City.
26 June 2014 is a Feast Day Mass for St. Josemaria at St. Therese of the Child Jesus, featuring a famous
Russian Filipina Conductor Lala Kliachko, and Soprano Soloist from the University of the Philippines, Sherla Najera
Sam Tsui and Kurt Hugo Schneider, internet personalities and Youtube celebrities will also perform for the first time in the Philippines on June 25 and 26, at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City. They are known for their wonderful covers of pop songs and their performance in the latest batch of Coca-cola commercials.
The Rak of Aegis concert by the legendary band Aegis also continues in the PETA Theater Center in New Manila, Quezon City. They perform every Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, featuring their classic hits Halik, Luha and Basang-basa sa Ulan. They have performances this coming June 27, 28 and 29, but they will still be performing until August 31.
The Swedish DJ Duo Icona Pop will also be performing their hit single I Love It and Manners on June 26 at Raven Manila, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. The show will start at 10 pm and the ticket price is Php3000, but the performance will be worth more than that, with their songs that can make you “both laugh and cry at the same time”, according to Universal Sweden.
For art and culture lovers, the International Council of Museums-Philippines will be celebrating International Museum Day on June 27 with their IMD2014 Forum, with the theme “Museum Collections Make Connections”. The event, which is to be held at the Hotel Benilde, Malate, Manila, is open to all who are interested to come.
Finally, for sports fans, the National Collegiate Athletic Association will be opening on June 28 with an opening match between this year’s host university Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers against the defending champions San Beda College Red Lions. The Red Lions will try to win their fifth consecutive championship this year, and be only the second team to be able to do so. The San Sebastian College Stags will also face Letran Knights on the same day, in the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
