Travel Tips in the Philippines: June to August Vacation

By: K. Chan

For the upcoming June to August vacation, you may be thinking of travelling to a new place to realize your dream, to bond with your loved ones, or merely just a break. No matter what the reason is, do travel, and keep the following tips in mind.

1. Do your research.

Before going on holiday, learn more about your chosen tourist destination. A quick Google search will easily acquaint you with the customs, tour places, and budget deals in that vacation place. If you’d like to have more in-depth knowledge, you could also purchase e-books from Unanchor.com . By researching, you are able to create a proper itinerary for your vacation and even if you are a more relaxed traveller, you benefit by knowing how to travel around the area and where to go.

2. Book in advance.

As exciting as it may seem to go on a spontaneous trip, you get more benefits by planning ahead. You have a better chance of availing vacation apartment promos, cheaper airfare, and other bargain deals. You are also certain that you have a seat on the plane, a roof over your head, and enough money to enjoy your break while in a foreign place. The all-important research will also be more through if you know exactly where you’re going and how much money you’ll need.

A full two months stay at a short term stay in Novaliches Quezon City booking typically earns you a discount.

Tip! You may want to book your island hopping when you arrive at the short term stay in Novaliches. They may have some nice places to suggest in the North that has white sands, fine gray beach sands, fresh food, and a place for a real cool springtime like weather during summer time.

3. Pack the necessary items.

With the strict baggage weight limits, travellers are often forced to leave items behind.  Weigh your bag before leaving for the airport. Secure your bag by packing it with tight plastic.  Make sure your bag does not contain pasalubong like perfumes in pressure bottles that are dangerous once the airplane is already up in the air.
It is always advisable to buy pasalubong at the Duty Free Shop or if you liked in the Malls...your friends and family will never know the difference. Just don’t show them the receipts and remove the tags. Most times it will come out cheaper.

There are certain objects however, that must always be brought on vacation such as a basic hygiene kit (shampoo, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, towel), enough clothes for your whole stay, money, airline tickets, lodging forms, and your passport. Make sure that you have these items and that they are appropriate for your vacation spot.

We usually suggest to bring what is extremely necessary, like your clothes for a formal event – that is if you are attending a wedding of your brother or sister, just make sure that the cloth is made of cotton, pajamas, and smart casual attire that is made of cotton.

If  all your clothes are made of wool, it is best to shop in the Philippines. If you liked new clothes, there are many malls to choose from that is affordable. Take advantage of sales which is typically at the end or the first three days of the month.

Otherwise if you are the “fashionista” type, there exists a second hand clothes market in the Philippines where you can get nice stylish clothes, even new ones. Have it altered according to your size at an affordable alteration shop.
I do not suggest buying bathing suit at second hand shops and intimate apparels.

4. Mingle with the locals.

One should not pass up the chance to see the tourist spots in their destination. Staying solely in a guided tour or the popular vacation sites, however, should not be practiced. Try experiencing life in your vacation place through a local’s eyes, whether that be walking around the city on your own, shopping at the local market, or having a conversation with a friendly native. These attempts at blending in give you unique experiences that cannot be seen on the internet.

5. Be open to new experiences.

Travelling takes you out of your safe comfort zone. By simply being in a new place, and away from the stresses of everyday life you are venturing into the unknown. Take advantage of that and do the things that you cannot do back at home which include eating a local specialty, participating in extreme sports, or even making a new friend.  When making friends in the Philippines, the safest is to have a relative or a real friend in your own country, introducing you to a family or a group of friends who are trusted. I do not suggest that you make friends in the streets and go along with them immediately; this is not advisable.

Make sure if you have new friends to get their names, and know their families, and you can send a copy to your family abroad, just in case you plan to go for an adventurous mountain climbing at Mt. Apo or other high peaks. Never ever, go mountain climbing alone in the Philippines.

Whatever you choose to do, do it with all of your heart, so when you come back home, you’ll have a new story to tell and the everlasting comfort of a beautiful memory.
